During autumn, mushroom picking becomes one of the most anticipated activities. Mushrooms not only enrich our dishes with their unique flavours, but also offer essential nutritional benefits. At this time of year, homes are filled with the aroma of stews and casseroles, dishes that were once cooked slowly over an open fire, bringing families and neighbours together around the cooker.
In Europe, autumn has historically been the season of the great harvests and the preparation of food for the winter. In the Rhine region of Germany, this time of year is celebrated with the 'Weinfest', a wine festival that brings thousands of people together to celebrate the grape harvest. It is a centuries-old tradition that highlights the importance of wine in the culture and economy of the region. Similarly, in other parts of Europe, such as in France, 'Beaujolais Nouveau Day' marks the release of the new wine every third Thursday in November, and is celebrated with great enthusiasm in many towns and villages across the country.
