Homemade doughnuts with sugar and chocolate glaze.

These fluffy and delicious homemade doughnuts are perfect with coffee or as a sweet treat. With a classic sugar glaze or chocolate glaze, they're sure to be a hit on any occasion!

Ingredients:

  • For the dough:
  • 500 g of strong flour
  • 250 ml warm milk
  • 80 g sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 70 g melted butter
  • 15 g fresh yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Sunflower oil for frying
  • For the sugar glaze:
  • 200 g icing sugar
  • 3-4 tablespoons of water
  • For the chocolate coating:
  • 200 g dark or milk chocolate
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Elaboration:

  • Preparing the doughIn a bowl, dissolve the yeast in the warm milk. Add the sugar, eggs, melted butter and salt. Gradually stir in the flour until the dough is smooth and elastic. Knead for about 10 minutes.
  • Leave to standCover the dough with a clean cloth and let it rest in a warm place for 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
  • Form the doughnutsOnce risen, roll out the dough with a rolling pin to a thickness of 1 cm. Cut out the doughnuts with a circular cutter or a glass. Use a small cutter or a bottle cap to make the centre holes.
  • Frying the doughnutsHeat plenty of sunflower oil in a deep frying pan. Fry the doughnuts over medium-high heat until golden brown on both sides, about 1-2 minutes on each side. Remove and place on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  • Sugar glazeMix the icing sugar with water to a light consistency. Dip the doughnuts in the glaze and place them on a wire rack to cool and harden the glaze.
  • Chocolate coatingMelt the chocolate together with the butter in a bain-marie or in the microwave in short intervals. Dip the doughnuts in the melted chocolate and let them cool on a wire rack.
Processing time:
  1. Preparation: 30 minutes
  2. Yeast: 1 hour
  3. Cooking time: 20 minutes
  4. Total: 1 hour and 50 minutes
Suggested presentation:
  1. Serve the doughnuts on a tray with a cup of coffee or hot milk. Alternate between sugar glazed and chocolate covered doughnuts for variety.
Additional advice:
  1. If you prefer, you can decorate the chocolate doughnuts with confectionery or chopped nuts while the chocolate is still warm.
  2. You can keep the doughnuts in an airtight container for up to 2 days, although they are much more tender when freshly made.
