Sal Negra Restaurant.

Ambience and Decoration

The restaurant is located in a fairly accessible area, on Calle Mateo Inurria. It is easy to find and has good transport links, making it easy for anyone wanting to enjoy a meal in the capital.

Upon entering, we find a cosy and modern atmosphere. The décor is elegant, with neutral tones and wooden details that give it a warm and sophisticated touch. The tables are well laid out, allowing for a certain amount of privacy and comfort, although at peak times it can feel a little noisier than desired.

Service

The service was generally friendly and attentive, although we did notice that at times, especially when the restaurant became crowded, the waiters seemed a little overwhelmed. However, they were always cordial and responded to our requests, although perhaps not as quickly as would be expected in a restaurant of this category. As an anecdote, we were served some beers as an aperitif that were not as cold as they should be and it took us a while to get them changed.

Value for money

Overall, we were satisfied with our experience at Sal Negra. The total bill of €194.50 reflects a high quality meal, with well presented dishes and service in keeping with the standard of the restaurant. Although some of the prices seemed high, we felt that the quality and overall experience justified the investment.

Recommended Dishes

  • Sal Negra's menu offers an interesting selection of dishes with a focus on quality produce and careful preparation. The Mediterranean influence is clear, but with modern touches that give an interesting twist to traditional dishes. This is what we had:
    • Tomato and sardine salad (21,50 €):
Seeing the price of the salad, we had high expectations. This price suggested that the ingredients would be top quality. The tomatoes should have been perfectly ripe and the sardines fresh, which could justify the cost. However, we admit that this is a high price for a salad, so we were expecting something really special.
    • Russian salad (13,50 €):
This dish seemed a little expensive for a Russian salad, a dish that is usually quite simple. However, at a place like Sal Negra, we imagine they would have used higher quality ingredients or given it a gourmet touch. It was tasty.
    • Squid fritters in its own ink (16,50 €):
This dish caught our attention because we are seafood lovers. The price of the fritters seemed fair, especially if the squid ink was fresh and the fritters were well prepared, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, as they were. Good.
    • Bluefin tuna carpaccio (25,50 €):
Bluefin tuna is always a pleasure, but also a luxury. Seeing this dish on the bill, we were satisfied with the choice, assuming the tuna was fresh and the presentation was impeccable. It is an expensive dish, but in this case, we felt it was worth it.
    • Pig's trotters (2 pieces - 41,00 €):
This was one of the most expensive dishes, which made us expect a really special preparation. Pig's trotters are a dish that, when done well, can be extraordinary. It was good, but nothing more.
    • Mackerel in pickled sauce (21,00 €):
The price of the mackerel in escabeche seemed a little high, but acceptable in this context. The marinade was well balanced and the mackerel was fresh, it was an outstanding dish.
    • Cheese cake (8,00 €):
We are big cheesecake fans and this one was rich and creamy.
    • Chocolate cake (6,50 €):
Very tasty too, the desserts did not disappoint and the price was normal.

Conclusion

The prices are high, but the quality of the ingredients and attention to detail made the experience worthwhile. We left with the feeling of having enjoyed a good dinner.

We give a rating of 4 out of 5 stars.
